SSPDT is delighted to host the much-loved open-air Pipes & Trad Music Festival, returning for the fourth time to the heart of Edinburgh in 2027.
Set on the iconic Mound Precinct, this vibrant celebration of traditional Scottish music brings together talented school-age performers from across the country.
With Edinburgh’s bustling city centre as your stage, it’s a unique opportunity to perform for lively, diverse audiences and to be part of an unforgettable musical experience.
The festival’s exciting programme features performances from pipe bands, ceilidh groups, and traditional music ensembles, all highlighting the remarkable skills of young musicians.
Whether you want to get the practice in ahead of a busy competitive season or simply enjoy performing to crowds in Edinburgh’s busy city center this is your chance to perform live in a high-profile setting, gain valuable experience and entertain the public.
School pipe bands and traditional musical ensembles, of all shapes and sizes are welcome at the festival.

We are committed to making the festival as inclusive as possible and recognise that the cost of travel is a barrier to participation, particularly for those from rural communities.
Bands travelling more than 100 miles may apply for financial support covering up to 50% of travel costs, (maximum contribution of £500) per group. Requests for support should be made in advance of the event through the Travel Subsidy Form.
